Nihao China: finally proper QR payments in China
In China, without a QR code you're as stuck as without a phone — 86% of payments go through WeChat Pay and Alipay, while cash and cards are rare. Nihao China solves the tourist's pain: link a UnionPay card and pay by QR like a local — metro, bus, shop — with no wallet top-ups and no app commission. If your card isn't in yuan, conversion is at the bank rate. Registration is by phone number; for now it's Chinese and English, with Russian and an AI assistant promised. It's a simplified version of UnionPay's 云闪付, and also covers taxis and more. Download from the App Store or Google Play. Every time I'm in Shanghai I'm reminded: without proper payments the city is half-closed. Nihao is a step in the right direction — especially if you travel independently rather than with a tour operator.
